Letting Go and Surrender
Although God Box is not an official tool in Al-Anon, it is used to improve well-being and can be a valuable support for Al-Anon members. This study explored ways God Box can be used to alleviate worry and obsession among Al-Anon members. In addition to explaining the extent to which major aspects of Al-Anon relate to the use of God Box, this study explored ways God Box can improve positive psychological outcomes. The researcher used a generic qualitative research design to understand participants’ perception of God Box. Nine Al-Anon members shared their experiences using God Box during the study. The data were analyzed and classified using four lenses of transformation, empowerment, healing, and trust to understand and identify Al-Anon members’ perception and use of God Box. Results demonstrate the significance of God Box in overcoming obsession and worries, and a powerful spiritual tool through which Al-Anon members experience positive psychological well-being.
